Apple Cinnamon Puff Pastry pie
Easy and tasty Italian apple pie recipe
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry store-bought or homemade
- 1/2 kg apples
- juice of 1/3 orange
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tab.spoons cane sugar
- 3 tab.spoons apricot jam
- 5 hazelnuts
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 tab.spoons fresh cream
Instructions
- If using store-bought puff pastry, roll it out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. If making homemade, prepare your dough and roll it thinly.
- Peel and slice the apples. Place them in a bowl and drizzle with the juice of one orange. Sprinkle the apples with cane sugar and cinnamon. Mix gently to coat.
- Use a fork to prick the pastry in a few places. This helps prevent the pastry from puffing up too much and keeps it from losing its shape during baking.
- Spread a thin layer of jam over the puff pastry, sprinkle chopped hazelnuts evenly over the jam. Carefully arrange the sliced apples in a circle and sprinkle them with cane sugar.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and cream. Using a pastry brush, carefully brush the surface of the puff pastry with the egg yolk and cream mixture. This will give the pastry a golden and shiny finish when baked.
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the pastry for about 30 minutes or until it turns golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t overcook.
Notes
You can serve the apple tart while it’s still warm with a scoop of ice cream!
